My name is Steven Sanchez and I developed my passion for filmmaking, photography, and storytelling in California’s Central Valley. I hold a BFA in Film from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and I’ve worked in multiple creative fields, ranging from screenwriting, videography, and journalism to marketing and public relations. I received film credits with being a production assistant on the independent film "Electrick Children" starring Julia Garner and Rory Culkin; production assistant and extra on the Roger Corman produced film Stealing Las Vegas starring Eric Roberts; writing screenplays for the Head of Creative Development at Mark Canton’s company Atmosphere Entertainment; behind the scenes photographer and extra in the short film "Impossible."
I then turned my attention to radio where I was tasked with taking pictures of rock concerts on behalf of a local rock station in my hometown. I turned my love of music into a passion for photography by attending performances in every type of venue―from clubs and outdoor festivals to acoustic showcases and arena spectacles. And I expanded my photographic endeavors to stand-up comedy, sporting events, and comic book conventions.
The artists and bands I’ve had the privilege of photographing have been Kiss, Bob Seger, Flogging Molly, B2K, Ying Yang Twins, Jackson Browne, Graham Nash, The Doobie Brothers, Tool, Pitbull, REO Speedwagon, Korn, Breaking Benjamin, Sammy Hagar, Silversun Pickups, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, P.O.D., Buckherry, Drake Bell, The Fever 333, Smash Mouth, A Day to Remember, The Deftones, Ghost, Lisa Loeb, Godsmack, Halestorm, Lindsey Sterling, Third Eye Blind, Shinedown, 3 Doors Down, Collective Soul, and more. With stand-up comedians and actors I have covered George Lopez, Gabriel Iglesias, Loni Love, Jamie Kennedy, Felipe Esparza, Sinbad, Johnny Sanchez, Darren Carter, Willie Barcena, Cristela Alonzo, and Taye Diggs.And the athletes I have featured have been Pro Football Pro Bowl quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders Derek Carr, surfing legend Kelly Slater, Pro Football Hall of Famer Lynn Swann, and other surfing greats like Carissa Moore, Stephanie Gilmore, Lakey Peterson, Gabriel Medina, and Felipe Toledo.
I came to the realization that no one had ever commemorated or archived the great artists that have performed in my hometown so that was the reason for the publishing of my first book "Rock & Roll for Everybody: A Photographic Tour of Today's Bands." It’s the first of its kind in the matter that there aren’t that many photography books that work as a manual on how to take concert photos. There aren’t that many Hispanic concert photographers out there let alone that have published a book on their work. Compilations consisting of concert imagery in Fresno or Bakersfield is non-existent. Some of these artists haven’t been depicted in visual imagery in book format before so this was their chance to fulfill that.
There are more book sequels in the works and as I evolve as an artist I plan on taking my work from the book shelves to the big and small screens. I reside in Clovis and I’m a journalist where you’ll see me covering topics such as music, entertainment, and veganism for publications Kings River Life Magazine and Fresno Flyer.
